FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE/FMD  

The disease is highly contagious and as a result some countries impose strict trade  regulations on imported animal products to prevent the introduction of the disease.  If an outbreak occurs, veterinary services enforce quarantine and slaughter the  affected animals to eradicate the disease.
