1. This question paper consists of THREE SECTIONS:
   SECTION A:Essay(50)
   SECTION B:Longer Transactional Text(30)
   SECTION C:Shorter Transactional Text(20)
2. Answer ONE question from EACH section.
3. Write in the language in which you are being assessed.
4. Start EACH section on a NEW page.
5. You must plan (e.g. using a mind map/diagram/flow chart/key words), edit and proofread your work. The plan must appear BEFORE each text.
6. All planning must be clearly indicated as such. It is advisable to draw a line through all planning.
7. You are strongly advised to spend approximately:
   
   • 80 minutes on SECTION A
   • 40 minutes on SECTION B
   • 30 minutes on SECTION C
8. Number the answers correctly according to the numbering system used in this question paper.
9. Give each response a suitable title/heading, where required.
10. Do NOT consider the title/heading when doing a word count.
11. Write neatly and legibly.

SECTION A: ESSAY
QUESTION 1

• Write an essay of between 250 and 300 words in length on ONE of the following topics.
• Write down the NUMBER and TITLE of the essay you have chosen correctly, e.g. 1.1 2019.
• Give your own title if your choice is QUESTION 1.7.1 OR 1.7.2.
• Spend approximately 80 minutes on this section.

2.1 FRIENDLY LETTER
Your friend is planning to bring his/her family on holiday to your province. He/She has written a letter to you asking for information on some of the places of interest to visit in your province.
Write a letter to your friend informing him/her of some of the places of interest they could visit while on holiday. [30]
2.2 SPEECH

The book club that you belong to is promoting reading among the youth in your school. The chairperson of this book club has asked you to deliver a speech at the next school assembly. Your speech must focus on the importance of reading.
Write the speech that you will deliver. [30]
2.3 COVERING LETTER
The following is an extract from the curriculum vitae of Zanele Chiba, a 20-year-old female, who is a volunteer worker at a hospital.

Zanele is responding to an advertisement in her local newspaper for the position of caregiver. She will have to submit her full curriculum vitae as well as other relevant documents with her application.
Using the format of a formal letter, write the COVERING LETTER that Zanele will send with her application. The covering letter should be addressed to: The Manager of Sunshine Nursing Home for The Elderly. [30]
2.4 NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
Many adults believe that social media has a negative influence on teenagers. However, social media also has many benefits for teenagers.
Write an article for a local newspaper in which you provide information on the benefits of social media for teenagers. [30]

QUESTION 3

• Choose ONE of the following topics and write a short transactional text.
• The body of your response should be between 80 and 100 words in length.
• Write down the NUMBER and the HEADING of the text you have chosen, e.g. 3.1 DIARY ENTRIES.
• Spend approximately 30 minutes on this section.

3.1 DIARY ENTRIES
You have been absent from school for a few weeks. Your mother has informed you that your school principal will be visiting you at home.
Write TWO diary entries. The first entry must indicate how you felt BEFORE the principal's visit and the second entry must express how you felt AFTER the principal's visit. [20]
3.2 INVITATION CARD
A famous local actor will be addressing members of your school's drama club. As chairperson of the organising committee, you are expected to invite drama clubs from the neighbouring schools to the event.
Write the invitation card.
NOTE: Do NOT include illustrations or drawings. [20]
3.3 INSTRUCTIONS
Your cousin will be getting married soon. He/She has asked you to look for a suitable venue for the wedding and has given you a set of instructions to follow when choosing the venue.
