| GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE: BATTERED BY BOYFRIENDS A terrible sickness is sweeping South Africa. We know it by its official name: gender-based violence (GBV). But that does not begin to tell the story of the physical abuse, as well as other forms of abuse women are subjected to. President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared GBV the new national disaster facing the country, together with the Covid-19 pandemic. | Historically, the relationships between the religions have often been conflicted. Many wars have been waged over religious differences and in some parts of the world this is still happening. While there have been periods of intense conflict, there have also been periods of religious cooperation. In South Africa, there have been many attempts at the level of religious leadership to develop cordial relationships among different religions.
